Marten Falls First Nation and Bird Construction Expand Piinahzii LP Partnership Agreement to Include Construction of the Marten Falls Community Access Road

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, Aug. 31, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Bird Construction Inc. (TSX: BDT) announced today that Piinahzii Limited Partnership (“Piinahzii LP”) has signed an agreement to expand the scope of the partnership to include the Marten Falls Community Access Road. Piinahzii LP is a majority Indigenous-owned partnership formed by Marten Falls First Nation and Bird earlier this year.

Aligned with the recent announcement by the Province of Ontario marking the ground breaking for the Marten Falls Community Access Road, the amended agreement expands Piinahzii LP’s role beyond community infrastructure and readiness work, to include construction of the access road itself. The agreement builds on the existing framework for jointly pursuing and executing infrastructure projects within the community and the Marten Falls First Nation Traditional Territory, while creating employment, training and contracting opportunities for community members and businesses.

The Marten Falls Community Access Road will connect Marten Falls First Nation to Ontario’s provincial highway network for the first time, providing reliable year-round access to health care, education, essential services, and economic opportunities. At approximately 184 kilometres and including 35 bridge and culvert structures, it is the longest segment of the proposed 514 kilometre all season road network being advanced to support access to the Ring of Fire region.

“This is an important step forward for Piinahzii and reflects the strength of the partnership we continue to build with Marten Falls First Nation,” said Teri McKibbon, President and CEO of Bird Construction Inc. “The Community Access Road is a significant community led project, and we are pleased to bring Bird’s infrastructure experience together with the leadership, knowledge and priorities of Marten Falls. Our focus is on delivering the work safely and responsibly while creating meaningful opportunities for community members and Indigenous businesses throughout the project.”
